Publishing Withdrawal
I'm getting publishing withdrawal again. I just want the book to be done. I want to commission cover art. I want to learn to make book-related merch. I want to sit my ass down and actually do this marketing thing.
Am I doing any of that?
No.
Why?
BECAUSE THE BOOK ISN'T FINISHED YET!!
Demon Kin: The Lovers has grown up to be the biggest chonk I've written in about ten years. Granted, I know a lot will be cut. I've marked the chapters and written around them as much as I could. But this beast is sitting at 116k words. And. It's. Still. Not. Done.
I know what's gotta be done to wrap it up. There's a torture scene. A final confrontation with the currently-off-screen villain. A somewhat twisted ending. And, alas, a return home for our wandering heros.
But I don't have the time to write, and what little I've been cranking out needs to be scrapped.
No. Scratch that. I have the time to write. I've just been using it to play games and listen to the Scared To Death podcast instead. I've also been running to the vet regularly, had two weddings to go to, and have been working a ton of overtime due to coworker malfunctions.
Please let September be the month of getting my shit together. Fingers crossed.
Oh, and to add to my financial woes, I need to upgrade Ori's tracker and also acquire one for the new kitten. But she also has to be big enough to wear it... Oh, and I need to get a new one for Demon so I can pitch this Tractive POS.
Lots going on. And instead of doing things, I sit here and play games. Because apparently my self-worth is absolutely determined by how much I get done and not on what I choose to do for fun. Yup. I'm working on it. Sorta.
On the plus side of things, DK:TL won't take too much longer to finish. And as long as I wrap it up before I hit 365 days, I'll be happy. Once I do finish the first draft, I will immediately contact the cover artist for DK:TQ. While she is creating things, I will be editing my ass off. (Y'all have no idea how rewarding it is to be able to just rip a book to shreds.) After the initial rounds of edits, I plan on making a kind of arc binder for a couple of friends to get their take.
Anyway, now I'm getting distracted with other things, and it's bedtime.
Goodnight.
