ARTIST FOUND!

So for the past few months, I've been on the lookout for cover artists for Demon Kin. Even though the first draft is not yet finished, I was in search of for many reasons. One: a cover that is released drives procrastinating authors–aka: me–to finish the book. Two: covers are excellent sources of promotional material, so the sooner they are released prior to the release date, the more interest you can build in a book. Therefore, I began the search for a cover artist MONTHS ago.

The thing about cover art is that it can be one of the biggest expenses when releasing a book, and next to editing is the #1 necessity for a book to do well. It also requires clear, constant communication between the artist and the commissioner to make sure it is as it should be. I'm still learning about all of this since it is the first time I've ever hired an artist to draw up a cover, but I'm excited by the process.

Other than budgeting concerns, the biggest delay in the commissioning of the art was the fact that I had no idea what I wanted the cover to look like. I played with the idea of a woman and girl. Of several badass women. Or even trying to find a single image for symbolism.

I had nada.

Then one day, for whatever reason, I thought that it would be cool to have the cover art look like a tarot card.

Cue Writer Brain.

Since then, I've come up with several incarnations of a Demon Kin tarot deck. I've changed the numbers from a standard tarot deck from 78 to 72. Next to the DK Fanfic that I've also intermittently worked on, I've put in a lot of time on this deck.

Then I decided to tweet about it and got an amazing reply from Mexican Artist, Michelle Guerrero. She expressed an interest in helping me with a deck, but I explained that I first needed cover art. That got the ball rolling and I'm super excited with the way she's bringing my MC to life!

So this is your formal update that the next post on this blog will be ALL about Demon Kin. This will likely include a cover reveal as well as a blurb along with some of my favorite scenes.

What this also means is that I will be updating the site to add a page for this new addition.

And to reward you for sticking around this long, I've decided (based on the tarot designs) to introduce you to the new names for DK and DK Fanfic. From here on out, they will be known as: Demon Kin: The Queen Demon Kin: The Lovers
